The Irish Times has picked Little Beauty as one of their "Twenty-Five Titles to Pack This Summer":
Little Beauty will be released on July 4
Doubleday Ireland has acquired a novel set in rural Ireland in the 1970s, and one other book, by Alison Jameson.
Transworld publishing director Catherine Cobain bought UK and Commonwealth rights from Faith O'Grady at the Lisa Richards Agency forLittle Beauty, and one other book, with the novel to be published early next year.
The agent described the title as an "evocative, deeply moving story of love and loss, imbued with quirky dark humour. The novel raises the question: How much will one person sacrifice for another's happiness?"
Cobain said: "I have long loved Alison's writing and am delighted to be able to publish her next book on our new imprint Doubleday Ireland. We are actively looking for literary Irish writers and Alison's novel, with its lyrical, atmospheric recreation of the west of Ireland of 40 years ago, is a perfect way to start the list."
